2012 Pinot Nero dell’Oltrepò Pavese v.s.q. traditional method

Producer: Monterucco

Production zone: from the hills of the Scuropasso Valley in Cigognola at 200 m of elevation.

Vines: 85% Pinot Nero and 15% Chardonnay.

Vinification: hand picked grapes. Traditional method. Soft pressing. Slow fermentation at low temperatures.  Re-fermentation in bottle on the lees for 50-60 months.  No dosage.  This wine was disgorged in the spring of 2019.

Sensory Characteristics:

Colour:   light brass with a hint of pink, very pretty.
Aroma:   intense, of fruit compote, flowers, hints of almonds and biscuits.
Taste:  persistent but calm perlage, succulent pear and melon give way to more complex notes of umami and flowers. Quite zippy and sharp.

Accompaniment:   “a tutto pasto” just about everything. Or by itself, of course… it’s so good.

Serving temperature:   10-12 C.

Summary: as per the DOCG requirements this brut nature is grown in the territorial area III which produces wines with more body and savoury characteristics.  This Nature displays the complex, sharper flavours of Pinot Nero.  A vintage sparkler worth collecting and saving for a special moment.
