2016 Buttafuoco dell’Oltrepò Pavese DOC “Sanluigi”

Producer: Monterucco
Production zone: from the hills of Cigognola at 150 m of elevation.
Vines: 50% Barbera, 35% Croatina, 15% Uva Rara e Ughetta di Canneto (Vespolina)
Vinification: hand picked grapes. 10 days of maceration and fermentation. 90% aging in steel and 10% in tonneau.
Sensory Characteristics:
Colour: deep garnet red
Aroma: red berries and plums, dried cherries.
Taste: round and well balanced with a good interplay between the acidity of the barbera and the fruitier flavours and exuberance of the other grapes.
Accompaniment: excellent in winter with raclette or out in a garden in summer by the barbeque.
Serving temperature: 18-20 C.
Summary: named after the founder Luigi, this is a very interesting red blend that combines Barbera with lesser known yet very fun varietals.
