Producer: Locatelli Caffi
Production zone: the name “I Pilendri” is a dialect word for high and steep and the nickname given to the family that used to live in this higher part of Grumello del Monte. The grapes enjoy this particular steep cru which faces the plains to the south, the highest and brightest hillside of this area.
Vines: 50% Merlot – 50% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Vinification: the grapes are hand harvested, destemmed and gently crushed. Constant pump-overs are performed followed by fermentation. The wine is then aged 12 months in botti and 6 months in barriques and then in the bottle and released after at least 36 months from harvest.
Colour: Ruby red, densely colored, with violet tinges
Aroma: Intense, pleasantly fruity with hints of Marasca (morello) cherries and red berries.
Taste: velvety, persistent and harmonious
Accompaniment: ideal with duck breast and wild mushrooms, polenta dishes and medium aged cheeses or with pasta al ragu.
Serving temperature: 18° C.
Summary: harmonious and generously juicy Bordeaux-style blend typical of the Valcalepio area. Can easily age longer but super drinkable now.
